On October 27, 2024, Chorus of Fools presented a staged reading of Ghost Burger, a new play by St. Louis playwright Andre Eslamian. As part of our New Play Project, this event gave Eslamian the opportunity to hear his work performed aloud for the first time and engage with audience feedback.
Held at the Kerr Foundation, the event featured themed snacks, a spooky raffle, and a costume contest, creating an immersive experience. Ghost Burger marked the third new play we’ve supported since our founding, reinforcing our commitment to developing bold new voices in theatre.
About the Play: Ernie’s Diner is located right off the exit for I-55 several dozen miles south of St. Louis. It exists in a state of limbo between the living and the dead. When the sun is up, it’s just a regular diner for truckers, farmers, and other blue-collar folk. When the sun is down, it becomes a gateway to Hell. There’s also a secret menu item: the Ghost Burger. You can only see it if you’ve been cursed by some supernatural being, not of this world. For years, Ernie has used the Ghost Burger to help people overcome their supernatural problems. Now his young protégé Zayne carries on his legacy, except he has his own agenda with the Ghost Burger. He’s got a supernatural problem himself involving some entity called the Lonely Man, and he’s been using the Ghost Burger to ask people if they know anything about it. One day, a woman named Stacey walks in to the diner and tells Zayne she’s been cursed by the Lonely Man too just last week. Who is the Lonely Man? How did Zayne and Stacey get cursed? What the hell is a Ghost Burger? Find out in this mysterious and surreal horror comedy play.
